Fireworks Confiscated in East Bay

Explosives were removed from two Pacheco homes, with the fire department using wheelbarrows to cart them out.

More than 400 pounds of fireworks have been confiscated in Contra Costa County Wednesday morning.

The explosives were removed from two Pacheco homes, with the fire department using wheelbarrows to cart them out. One arrest was made at the first home: 19-year-old Jesse Aron Payn. A second arrest was made later with 45-year-old Richard Charles Tapia taken into custody.

Both men face felony charges of possessing explosives/destructive devices as well as possessing dangerous fireworks without a permit.

The raid was a result of a tip, according to Robert Marshall of the county's fire department. Marshall went on to say the raid was just "a drop in the bucket" of the illegal fireworks that are out there.

The county captured M-80s, firecrackers, mortars, mortar cakes, giant sparklers and bottle rockets.
