Fremont Man Sentenced in Murder of High School Football Player

A 19-year-old man has been sent to prison for the gang-related fatal stabbing of a Northern California high school football player.

Abraham Hade of Fremont was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison in an Alameda County courtroom on Friday after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder in March.

Hade, an alleged member of the Fremont Mexican Territory gang, was convicted of stabbing to death 18-year-old Osana Futi during a fight outside a party in Fremont in April 2012.

Prosecutors argued that Hade killed Futi, who had been fighting with other gang members because he thought they were responsible for the stabbing death of close friend and teammate, Justice Afoa, in 2010.

Futi was a star running back and linebacker at Newark Memorial High School.
