Monticello Fire Near Lake Berryessa 71 Percent Contained: Cal Fire

A vegetation fire that has burned nearly 6,500 acres near Lake Berryessa in Solano and Yolo counties is 71 percent contained, Cal Fire said late Tuesday.

The fire, which began burning Friday night near the Monticello Dam, initially threatened 40 structures and caused the Golden Bear Estates and Canyon Creek Resort campground to be evacuated.

No homes or outbuildings were destroyed, although three injuries have been reported, according to fire officials.

All evacuation orders have now been lifted and all public roads are open, but firefighters continue to battle the blaze in steep, rugged terrain with difficult access, according to Cal Fire officials.

Bulldozers and hand crews will continue working through the night, but fire officials are now working to demobilize and start releasing resources, officials said Tuesday evening.

The smoke from the fire has diminished, but could continue to affect the area for days to come.

Fire officials are asking the public for help in determining the fire's cause.

Cal Fire investigators now urge anyone in the area of Highway 128 between the Canyon Creek Resort and Pleasant Valley Road between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on July 4 to call the Cal Fire Arson Hotline at 800-468-4408.

Those who have information or descriptions of people or vehicles that were in the area can remain anonymous, Cal Fire officials said.
