Morgan Hill police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman who stole a purse from a shopping cart at a supermarket and went on a spending spree.

The woman, who was captured on surveillance cameras, followed the victim around a Safeway store on East Dunne Avenue and waited for just the right moment to grab the victim's purse, police said.

The suspect then spent $3,000 at Rite Aid and $2,000 at Target within the hour, police said.

Police did not provide a day and time of the crime but offered a warning to shoppers to keep an eye on their personal belongings during the busy shopping season.
