Oakland Rapper Films Own Displacement for ‘Tech $' Video

A new music video shows a rapper's real struggles to stay afloat in the Bay Area.

Oakland's Zion I has posted a video for "Tech $" on Facebook and dedicated it to people paralyzed by the swiftly moving effects of gentrification in the city.

"Many from the outside have a difficult time seeing the negative effects of it," he wrote on his Facebook page. "I filmed this video to give outsiders some insight; it is not staged, it is my family actually being displaced from the effects of soaring rents and property values in Oakland. I hope this encourages conversations between long term residents and newcomers alike."

"It's happening to me, I'm out here right now moving my whole family on a spur of the moment and God bless I actually found a spot," he said at the beginning of the video as he's seen carrying furniture to a moving truck. "Now I'm going further out than I've ever been in 18 years."

Zion I is currently on tour across the United States through mid-August.
