Pedestrian Killed in San Jose Traffic Collision

San Jose police are investigating a traffic collision that left a pedestrian dead.

The collision was reported at about 7 p.m. Friday in the area of Monterey Road and Phelan Avenue. Police said a pedestrian in a wheelchair and the driver of a vehicle hit head on in the collision.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation and police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

No other information is being released at this time.

Friday's collision marks San Jose's 41st traffic fatality of 2013, and the 26th vehicle vs. pedestrian fatality of the year.
