'Tripod' Puppy Is Up for Adoption at Peninsula Humane Society

The nine-month old Pit Bull terrier mix named Jay was discovered with multiple fractures on his rear left leg

A three-legged "tripod" puppy is available for adoption at the Peninsula Humane Society & Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals nearly two months after a Brisbane police officer discovered him.

The nine-month old Pit Bull terrier mix named Jay was discovered with multiple fractures on his rear left leg, according to PHS/SPCA’s Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox.

“The damage was sadly too severe for surgical repair of the leg, and after careful consideration our veterinary team made the decision that the only way to save the dog’s life was to sacrifice this limb by surgical amputation," Tarbox said.

Tarbox said Jay has done well in learning how to adjust to having three legs. He was then placed for adoption at PHS/SPCA’s Tom and Annette Lantos Center for Compassion in Burlingame.

"Despite missing a limb, Jay is still very playful and agile," Tarbox said.
