A trailer for Pixar's animated feature film "Inside Out" includes a claim that San Francisco has not contributed positively to the national pizza dialogue.
"Congratulations, San Francisco, you've ruined pizza!" says the character of "Anger," who is voiced by Lewis Black. "First the Hawaiians, and now you!"
At issue is the inclusion of broccoli on their slices, prompting the inner voices of lead character "Riley" to ask, "Who puts broccoli on pizza?"
It's actually not a ubiquitous standard in San Francisco, though one might procure a lovely broccoli rabe pie at cult favorite Pizzeria Delfina.
While the family in the movie has moved to San Francisco from the Midwest with all the resultant culture shock, SFist pointed out that the pizza jab comes from a place close to home: Pixar is based in Emeryville.
