A power outage affected approximately 40,000 PG&E customers in Alameda County this evening, a utility spokeswoman said.
The outage was reported at about 7:30 p.m. and affected customers in Fremont, Union City, Hayward and Newark, PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said. Preliminary reports indicate the outage was caused by equipment failure at PG&E's Newark substation.
Power was restored by 10 p.m.
