Sonoma Raceway Collects Over a Ton of Food for 2 Local Food Banks

Sonoma Raceway collected and delivered more than a ton of non-perishable food and $2,400 in cash donations to two Sonoma County food banks during its annual food drive.

The holiday bounty went to the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa and Friends in Sonoma Helping (F.I.S.H.) in Sonoma. Both food banks are facing peak holiday season demand.

"With one in every six people in Sonoma County facing hunger, every can, every bag and every dollar makes a direct and immediate impact to our neighbors in need. A donation of this weight equals 577 meals now available to our neighbors in need," Redwood Empire Food Bank relief worker Cassidy Jordan said.

"This is a lot of food and it will male a lot of people happy. The monetary donations will help with gift certificates for meat and produce for each participant as we will have about 450 families sign up for food baskets," F.I.S.H. volunteer Dee Weaver said.

Sonoma Raceway's annual food drive has distributed more than 40 tons of food since 2000, and its current Season of Giving continues with the High-Speed Toy Drive underway through Dec. 11.
