Oakland Motel 6 Standoff Ends with Homicide Suspect Dead

The homicide suspect involved in an intense hours-long standoff in Oakland apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said Friday.

Oakland police sent out a statement about 6:30 a.m. saying the suspect had likely killed himself inside the Motel 6 on Edes Avenue, near Hegenberger Road. Police heard "multiple gunshots" erupt from the room about 3 a.m. before going inside to find the suspect dead. Police say that no officers discharged their firearms.

Sources told NBC Bay Area the suspect who had barricaded himself inside was Jason Alexander Brown, who was wanted for a deadly shooting in Livermore last month.

Police said Brown and another man are suspected to have shot two men at a CVS parking lot on First Street. One of the victims died and the other was severely wounded.

Police have been on the hunt for Brown and said they have not been able to identify the other man involved in the shooting.

Brown was also suspected for homicides and Fresno and Sacramento.
