Water Rerouted Around Santa Cruz Boardwalk

Sand berm saving Santa Cruz boardwalk.

A sand berm reinforced with sand bags built this week has been keeping the San Lorenzo River away from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and while only a few rides were open Saturday, more were available to visitors on Sunday, park officials said.

The sand berm was built to reinforce the river's route to sea after its course changed towards the boardwalk this week.

So far the efforts have prevented the river from damaging the 105-year-old park.

Most of the rides on the boardwalk were closed on Saturday due to inclement weather and fears that the river could damage the park, but park officials had planned to open 11 rides on Sunday.
