A pair of Silicon Valley mavens are among the eight most important and influential people in the world right now.
So says TIME magazine.
The news magazine named Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and Apple CEO Tim Cook as finalists for its Person of the Year issue.
Other finalists for the award -- which has been bestowed upon luminaries like Steve Jobs (2010) and infamous villains like Adolf Hitler (1938) alike -- include Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani women's rights activist whom the Taliban tried to kill, Italian discoverer of the Higgs boson Fabiola Giannati, President Barack Obama and Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
Mayer, 37, is the former "Employee No. 20" at Google who took over the top job at Yahoo in June. Cook had the tough act of Jobs to follow, but has led Apple to a record-high market capitalization, the newspaper reported.
The winner will be announced Wednesday.
