Woman’s Body Found on Dirt Road in East Bay, Homicide Investigation Launched: Sheriff’s Department

A homicide investigation is underway in a rural Contra Costa County community after a woman's body was found on a dirt road, sheriff's department officials said Wednesday.

Authorities were first alerted to a report of a body along the 500 block of Camino Diablo in Brentwood near Byron on Tuesday, according to sheriff's officials. When they arrived at the scene, deputies found the dead woman.

Quarry workers discovered the woman's body just off Camino Diablo on a sandy road leading to a sand mine. The workers said there was a carpet or tarp near the woman's that appeared to be dumped with her body.

The victim is believed to be a San Francisco resident in her 40s, according to sheriff's officials. An autopsy was performed Wednesday, but officials had yet to identify the woman.

Sheriff's officials said they have no motive and no suspects and are investigating the death as a homicide.
