Driver Arrested After Crashing Vehicle and Abandoning Injured Passenger

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Wednesday morning after crashing a vehicle into a tree and abandoning a passenger who suffered major injuries near Felton in unincorporated Santa Cruz County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the crash was reported at 8:39 a.m. on Mount Hernon Road just east of Graham Hill Road. The driver, identified as Cameron Reed of Monterey, fled the scene after the crash and was later located by witnesses behind a CVS store changing his clothes.

Officers who arrived to speak to Reed noted signs of drug impairment and took Reed into custody.
