Roadway flooding associated with a late night storm that has hit the Bay Area late Wednesday night and early Thursday has caused delays, partial closures and advisories to be issued heading into the Thursday morning commute in San Francisco and other parts of the region, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said the U.S. Highway 101 and Interstate Highway 80 junction in San Francisco has two major thoroughfares affected by waterlogged roadways after 0.53 inches of rain accumulated as of 2 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Westbound I-80 just east of Ninth Street had two lanes closed due to three drains being clogged and a foot of water accumulating on the highway, according to the CHP. The closure was expected to be lifted around 4 a.m.
In the opposite direction, the northbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to Bryant Street has 4-5 inches of water on the roadway as of 12:43 a.m. Thursday, the CHP said. As of 3:40 a.m., the CHP said the flooding is minor.
Also in San Francisco, the Great Highway is closed in both directions from Lincoln Way to Sloat Boulevard as of 3 a.m., according to San Francisco Public Works. There is no estimated time of reopening and a reason for the closure wasn't given.
In other areas of the region, northbound U.S. 101 in Corte Madera has 4 inches of water across all lanes as of 2:07 a.m., the CHP said. There is no estimated time of when the water would be cleared.
