Elderly Santa Clara Woman, Son Found Shot Dead at Home in Apparent Murder-Suicide

Two people were found fatally shot at a Santa Clara home in an apparent murder-suicide Friday morning, a police spokesman said.

The deceased were an 89-year-old woman, identified as the victim, and a 68-year-old man, who is believed to be her son and suspect in the shooting, police Lt. Dan Moreno said.

Officers responded to a request for a welfare check shortly before 9 a.m. in the 1000 block of Las Palmas Drive just west of San Tomas Expressway, Moreno said.

Arriving officers found the bodies of the elderly woman and man in the same room and with gunshot wounds, according to Moreno.

Investigators don't believe there are any suspects at large or threat to public safety, the spokesman said.

The names of the deceased won't be released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office until their next of kin is notified, Moreno said.
