Hayward Unified School District has placed one elementary school on lockdown and three others on shelter-in-place as police search for an armed robbery suspect in the area.
Several police vehicles were seen on Schafer Road near Glassbrook Elementary, which was placed on lockdown. Students and staff at Tyrrell Elementary, Schafer Elementary and Eldridge Elementary were advised to shelter-in-place, according to the school district.
The robbery was reported just before 9 a.m. in the 26000 block of Gading Road, according to Lt. Guy Jakub.
"We're not searching any of the schools," Jakub said, adding that police were focusing their efforts on a nearby apartment complex.
