Falling Tree Seriously Injures Sonoma Couple

A man and his wife were seriously injured when they were struck by a falling tree while driving through Sonoma County on U.S. Highway 101 Tuesday evening.

Sebastopol resident Kiko Tagnashi, 42, was driving south on Highway 101 near Asti with his wife and two children when a tree fell onto the roadway and hit the front right side of the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Taganashi was impaled by a tree branch and sustained severe chest injuries. He was reported to be in critical but stable condition on Wednesday at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, according to the CHP.

Taganashi's wife, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized with a broken neck. The CHP reported she was in stable condition Wednesday.
