M2.6 earthquake strikes near Gilroy, USGS says

A preliminary 2.6 magnitude earthquake struck near Gilroy Thursday night, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 11:23 p.m. and was centered about 5.2 miles northwest of Gilroy, the USGS said.

No other information was immediately available.
