Magnitude 3.5 Earthquake Strikes Piedmont Overnight

A magnitude-3.5 earthquake struck near Piedmont Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at 12:50 a.m. roughly two miles east-southeast of Piedmont at a recorded depth of 2.98 miles.

There were no immediate reports of damage according to fire departments in Berkeley, Alameda County and Piedmont. But people from San Leandro to Santa Clara said they felt the Earth move.

Jade Hernandez wrote on Facebook that she was binge-watching Stranger Things when she felt it. "Scared the heck out of me," she wrote, adding she grabbed her 2-year-old and rousted him out of bed.

Sara Dunaway Seitz wrote she was headed to bed when the quake hit her penthouse rooftop in San Leandro, shaking her building for about 10 to 15 seconds.

Molly Stanley Wolter wrote she felt the earthquake about 45 miles away. "The cat began to go nuts" for a few seconds, she wrote, before jumping into the window and "banging her tail!!"
