Driver Dies After Vehicle Crashes Into Tree in San Jose

A man died Monday evening after crashing into a tree in San Jose, according to San Jose police.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported at about 3:40 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Meridian Avenue, near Harmon Avenue, police said.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Meridan Avenue approaching Harmon Avenue at high rate of speed, police said. The Honda lost control and struck a tree.

The driver, who was the only one in the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

It was not known if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.

It was the city's 53rd fatal collision and 55th victim of 2019, police said.

No other information was immediately available.
