Man Escapes Injury After Car Hit By Amtrak Train in Pinole

A man escaped injury Friday night after his car was struck by an Amtrak train near a Pinole railroad crossing.

According to Pinole fire officials, the collision occurred at about 10 p.m. at the Tennent Avenue railroad crossing.

Fire officials said a westbound Amtrak train struck the car, a late model Mercedes, and the car came to rest at the center of the crossing.

The unidentified solo occupant of the Mercedes was able to escape before the collision and was not injured.

Firefighters from the Rodeo-Hercules Fire District checked the train's passengers for injuries, and reported that no one on the train was injured.

There were no hazards or significant damage to the train, and crews mitigated spilled fluids and debris hazards from the car, fire officials said.

Pinole police conducted an investigation of the diver in cooperation with the Amtrak staff and Union Pacific police.
