A small earthquake struck off the north coast of California, and authorities say there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude-4.0 temblor hit at 8:10 a.m. about 8 miles west of the town of Petrolia and nearly 250 miles north of San Francisco.
It was immediately followed by an aftershock of magnitude-2.4.
A Humboldt County sheriff's dispatcher says the agency has not gotten any injury or damage reports.
The seismically active area already has seen two significant events this year. A magnitude-6.5 quake left more than $40 million in damage and one serious injury on Jan. 10, and a magnitude-5.9 quake rocked the area Feb. 4 but caused no major damage.
