Preliminary 4.2 and 3.0 magnitude earthquakes shake the North Bay

A preliminary 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck in northern Sonoma County Friday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 1:28 p.m. and was centered 2.9 miles southwest of Cobb, 13.5 miles south-southwest of Clearlake, 13.8 miles north-northeast of Healdsburg and 17.1 miles north of Windsor, the USGS said.

The temblor was followed by a preliminary 3.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the same area at 2:23 p.m., according to the USGS.

No other information was immediately available.
