Oakland's First Fridays Returns After being Canceled Due to Gun Violence

Organizers for a popular street festival in Oakland said that the event will be back on after cancellations in October due to gun violence.

Three hours after an Oakland First Fridays event in October, a shooting occurred on 19th and Telegraph Avenue, blocks away from the original event site.

Organizers made plans to improve security policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for attendees.

The monthly celebration features local performances, food vendors and art that brings thousands to the area within the city.

Oakland’s First Friday’s is set to return on Dec. 7 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
