Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Investigated in Concord: Police

Authorities in Concord were investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in a residential neighborhood late Sunday after officers shot a 60-year-old man with a knife, Concord police said.

At about 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 900 block of Oasis Street on a report of a man acting erratically. The call came from two elderly residents, ages 85 and 90, who said their son was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.

Neighbors also called police saying the man was in the front yard with a firearm, police said. Officers arrived and tried to talk with the man, but he went back into the house.

The officers then saw an elderly man walk out of the house suffering from serious injuries, police said. When the officers got into the home, they found the man straddling his mother while holding a knife. At that point, two officers fired at the suspect, police said.

Officers provided medical aid to both elderly victims and the man, but the 60-year-old son was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The two elderly people were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
