Peninsula Police Search for Mentally Disabled Man

Police on the Peninsula are searching for a mentally disabled man who left his residence and has not returned.

Officers said that Danny Benavente, 30, left his home on the 3400 block of Rolison in Redwood City on a red mountain bike. His family did not know where he was going. Officers said it was not known what brand the bike was.

Officers described Benavente as "severely mentally disabled, with the approximate mentality of a five year old."

Benavente does not have any medical problems, but would most likely not be able to articulate his name, address or other personal information, officers said.

Benavente does not carry any wallet or identification, and he is exclusively Spanish speaking, officers said.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, but it is unknown what other clothing he might have had on, police said.

The subject has no scars, marks, or tattoos. Benavente has been reported missing at least four times in the past, but there is no pattern to his behavior when he leaves his residence unsupervised, officers said.
