Perry Woodward Appointed Gilroy Mayor

Perry Woodward is the new mayor of the city of Gilroy.

The Gilroy City Council appointed Woordward to mayor after a 5-1 vote Monday night. Woodward had been serving on the council as mayor pro tempore.

Woodward posed for pictures with his two young daughters and thanked his wife and family after the appointment.

The opposing vote against Woodward came from councilman Roland Velasco who said while the “easy thing” would be to vote for Woodward, the two had too many “policy disagreements” for him to agree to the appointment.

Former mayor Don Gage officially vacated his seat Dec. 31 after more than thirty years of public service. Gage announced his retirement early December, naming more time with family as the reason he “hang up the spurs.”

Woodward will finish Gage’s mayoral term which is set to expire November 2016.

The now vacant seat on the city council will be filled during the next meeting Monday January 18.

Woodward is a practicing attorney at Terra Law LLP based in San Jose. He dropped out of the mayoral race back in 2012.
