PG&E crews responded to a gas line break in Petaluma Tuesday afternoon, a PG&E spokeswoman said.
A construction crew struck a 2-inch plastic gas line with a backhoe around 2 p.m. on Madison Street near Wilson Street, and seven residents in the area were evacuated, PG&E spokeswoman Deanna Contreras said.
PG&E crews were still working to shut off the gas at 4:15 p.m.
Petaluma fire officials said Madison Street was closed between Lakeville and Edith streets and Wilson Street was closed between Madison and East Washington streets.
