Suspect in Custody After Reports of Shots Fired at Hayward BART Station

The Hayward BART station was shut down late Wednesday due to reports of shots fired at a Hayward police officer, according to the transit agency and police.

At about 7:30 p.m., BART and Hayward police responded to reports of shots fired in the station area, and took one person into custody, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Hayward police later said the suspect fired shots at one of its officers. It's wasn't clear if the officer returned fire.

Trains were not stopping at the station, and it remained closed while the incident was investigated, BART said.

AC Transit set up a bus bridge between Bayfair, Hayward and South Hayward stations.

BART police said there was no threat to public safety.
