Standoff Shuts Down Highway 101 in San Jose, Leads to Chase and Arrest

NBC Universal, Inc.

Reports of a man with a pellet gun possibly shooting at other cars shut down Highway 101 in San Jose Monday afternoon, police said.

The man, described by police as “despondent,” was in his car beneath a section of the highway, just south of Alum Rock when he took off and led them on a chase.

Officers chased him for almost an hour, which included stops at two gas stations and one stop at an apartment building.

The man, who has not been identified, made a fourth stop in front of a liquor store and that’s when police caught up to him and surrounded him with their guns drawn until they got him out of his car and onto the ground.

He was arrested and taken into custody.

Further information was not immediately available.
