The Red Cross helped more than a dozen ousted residents living at an elderly care home after a two-alarm fire broke house late Monday night in San Francisco's Mission district.
Two care workers were able to get 14 residents, some who also have special needs, to safety, according to Red Cross spokesman Woody Baker-Cohn. One of the residents was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire was reported Monday at 11:07 p.m. at 628 Shotwell St., according to San Francisco fire officials.
When firefighters arrived, firefighters found a working fire that appeared to be coming from the top floor of the three-story building, according to a fire dispatcher.
At 12:23 a.m., firefighters were able to bring the fire under control,but it did spread to an adjascent building.
