Certain residents on Industrial Parkway in Hayward were advised to shelter in place Thursday night while firefighters work to extinguish a one-alarm debris fire at an appliance recycling facility.
The fire was reported at about 4:30 p.m. at Sims Metal Management, an appliance recycling facility located at 30104 Industrial Parkway Southwest.
Residents one mile east of the facility have been notified of the shelter-in-place, due to possible hazardous materials being released, Battalion Chief Garrett Contreras said.
Contreras said no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Contreras said.
The Union City Fire Department also is assisting in the fire.
