San Pablo Police Plan to Put End to High-Speed Pursuits Using ‘StarChase'

It looks like a gadget straight out of a science-fiction movie, but it's very real.

An East Bay police department believes it could put an end to high-speed chases thanks to what is called the StarChase system.

San Pablo police are now outfitted with a high-tech tool designed to nab suspect cars, without the danger of a high-speed chase.

"It provides an opportunity to not have to get into high-speed pursuits inside the city," said Robert Richer with the San Pablo Police Department.

Instead, when officers believe a suspect may flee they tag it with a super-sticky GPS device, then slow down as dispatchers watch them.
