Police arrested a Dougherty Valley High School student Monday on suspicion of possessing a knife and concealed explosive components on the San Ramon campus.
Police said they were called to the school after students told administrators that a student was in possession of a knife. After arresting the 14-year-old freshman for the knife, an officer discovered that the student also possessed muriatic acid, which when combined with other materials can create an explosive detonation, according to Lt. Cary Goldberg.
Police are investigating why the student was in possession of the material.
The student was booked into Juvenile Hall.
"At this time, we believe that this incident has been contained and there is no additional threat to students or the school," Goldberg said in a news release.
Police commended the students who reported the suspicious activity and the administrators who immediately notified them.
