Search Called Off for Suspect Who Tried to Run Over Berkeley Police Officer

Police have called off a search for a suspect who clipped a Berkeley police officer during a car stop Saturday night in Oakland, a police spokeswoman said.

At about 6:10 p.m. a Berkeley police officer stopped a vehicle for a moving violation at Dover and 61st streets in Oakland, a short distance from the border between the two cities.

As the officer talked with the driver, the driver drove off and clipped the officer, Berkeley police spokeswoman Lt. Alyson Hart said.

A chase ensued that went on and off Interstate 580 until officers lost the suspect in Oakland at MacArthur Boulevard and 75th Avenue, Hart and Oakland police Officer Wesley Huynh said.

The officer was not injured.
