If you were still recovering from pumpkin pie yesterday and didn't do Black Friday, today is another good day to get some holiday shopping done.
The first ever Small Business Saturday doesn't promise the huge discounts of Friday, but it hopes to help independently-owned businesses get through this tough economy.
Small Business Saturday's official website lists a few good reasons to shop locally today:
- For every $100 spent locally, $68 goes back into the community.
- Small businesses employ half of all private sector employees
- For every year over the last decade, 60-80 percent of new jobs were generated by small businesses
- Small businesses represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms
So try to avoid getting lost at Fry's today and instead check out that mom and pop shop down the street.
Or you could just have some leftovers, use the old "tryptophan in the turkey drugged me" excuse and wait for Cyber Monday.
