Switch Failure Causes 3,177 PG&E Customers to Lose Power in Walnut Creek

An underground electrical switch failure is believed to have caused a power outage that left 3,177 PG&E customers near downtown Walnut Creek without power Saturday afternoon, a few for more than two hours, a PG&E spokeswoman said.

The outage was reported at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, PG&E spokeswoman Karly Hernandez said. By 2:30 p.m., about 1,850 customers had their power restored, and all but 50 were back online by 3 p.m., Hernandez said. The last 50 customers had power back by 4 p.m. Saturday.

It doesn't appear as if the failure was related to Saturday's rainy and cold weather, she added.
