Storm Watch: Where to Get Free Sandbags

To brace for the serial Bay Area storms pelting down from Wednesday through Sunday, many cities and agencies are handing out sandbags - for free - to residents who want to plug up cracks and holes and prevent flooding.

Here is a list we've compiled on some of the places where to get them.

Alameda County :The county's public works agency has more than a dozen locations from San Leandro to Berkeley, where residents can pick up the bags. For a full list, click here.

Marin County: There are more than a dozen places to pick up sandbags. For a full list, click here.

Menlo Park: Police are handing out sandbags at Alma Street and Burgess Drive, as well as Pope and Laurel avenues. 

Contra Costa County Sheriff: Sandbags will be available at Byron Airport, 500 Eagle Court, Byron; Antioch Fairgrounds, 1201 West 10th Street; Ambrose Park and Recreation Center / CCC Family Service Center, 3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point;   West County Detention Facility, 5555 Giant Highway, Richmond;   Contra Costa Fire Protection District, Station 4, 700 Hawthorne Drive, Walnut Creek and across from Contra Costa County fuel station, 2467 Waterbird Way, Martinez.

Oakland: Oakland Public Works Agency will  make 20 sandbags and 50 feet of plastic sheeting available to each household  and business within the city for pickup at the City's Municipal Service  Center, at 7101 Edgewater Drive and the Drainage Division Facility,  at 5921 Shepherd Canyon Road.   A limit of five sandbags per household can be picked up at various  fire stations throughout the city.

Petaluma: Sacks and sandbags are are available for pickup at the northern end of Hopper Street, near Shamrock Materials, in the western part  of town. Alerts and emergency notifications will be posted on the city's  website, twice a day during the stormy weather.
