A water line break in Pleasant Hill on Friday caused a sinkhole and the closure Saturday morning of Contra Costa Boulevard.
The Pleasant Hill Police Department responded to reports of water logging in the area of Contra Costa Boulevard between Woodsworth and Gregory lanes around 9 p.m. Friday.
A water line failed beneath the roadway surface of the southbound lanes and caused water to escape through the cracks in the street, flooding the roadway and nearby business properties, police said.
The Contra Costa Water District, which turned off water supply in the area early Saturday, spent hours trying to set up detours and stop the leak.
The repairs will likely take 24 hours, and the roadway will likely remain closed through Sunday.
No injuries were reported.
