Crews Dig 10 Feet Deep to Fix Water Main Break in Oakland

Crews were digging 10 feet deep into the ground as they worked to replace a pipe section Wednesday after a water main break late Tuesday near the Coliseum BART station.

Six customers were affected and the break continued to cause traffic issues in Oakland. Motorists can't make a right turn onto San Leandro Street from 66th Ave., according to an East Bay Municipal Utility District spokesperson.

East Bay MUD said the water main that broke involved a split in the pipe, not just a hole, and crews were working to dig around the split section of the 12-inch cast iron main pipe to replace it.

The Oakland Athletics and Golden State Warriors played home games Tuesday night, making for sticky traffic before and after the games with the nearby street closure.
