"Under an Arctic Sky" and "Jane" are two of the works that will be featured at the four-day gathering.

APRÈS-SKI, or après-tubing, or après-making-snow-angels, or après-tromping-through-the-woods-while-enjoying-the-stillness is a time-honored, faithfully observed tradition around our winter-loving towns. And while après-anything often involves a fireplaces and/or a warm toddy and/or some serious chillaxing, it doesn't always have to be that way. In fact, sometimes there are movies to watch, quite a few of them, and that many of them have to do with nature, and the vast and wild outdoors, and environmental causes cleaves well to a getaway that's built around being out in the snow, under the sky. Such satisfying cleaving will go down, much like a skier on a freshly powder slope, from...

THURSDAY, NOV. 30 THROUGH SUNDAY, DEC. 3... when the 3rd annual Tahoe Film Fest returns to North Lake Tahoe. That's a pretty big area, so best turn your eyes to Incline Village, Northstar Village Cinemas, and Truckee High School Auditorium during those four days, should you want to settle in for flicks like "Jane" (the much buzzed-about work spotlighting Jane Goodall and her important work with chimpanzees) and "Under an Arctic Sky," which delves into surfing in some of the furthest reaches of Iceland. There are over 30 flicks in all, and 13 of the 30 are environmental in theme. One especially vintage treat with local cred? Charlie Chaplin's "The Gold Rush" will screen, and if you know your Chaplin, you'll know the role Truckee played in the 1925 silent.

WILL YOU BE IN THE AREA... when November 2017 melds into December? Or are you ready to make a special trip, for both slope and cinema? You can secure your tickets in advance, though keep in mind you can also purchase at the door, if tickets remain. Après is a way of life when the cold settles in, but it isn't just about fireplaces and toddies. Cinema, too, especially those movies that look to nature, forests, oceans, and our stewardship, make for a perfect pastime when a frosty day outside has wrapped.
