FDA Names Taylor Farms as Source of Parasite Outbreak

A Mexico division of a California-based produce supplier is responsible for shipping parasite-tainted salad mix that has sickened consumers in Nebraska and Iowa, the Federal Drug Administration said on Friday. Federal health officials did not say whether the same greens are connected to a cyclospora outbreak that has sickened 400 people in 16 states. The grower, Taylor Farms of Mexico, is part of Taylor Farms, a Salinas-Calif.-based company that supplies lettuce and cut vegetables to national restaurant chains. The investigation has not implicated salad mixes sold in grocery stories, officials said. The company has been cooperating with the agency, they added.
