Well...um....err....Paul Giamatti's in it!
That's literally the most cohesive thought we can formulate after watching the first trailer for director Don Coscarelli's ("Phantasm," "Bubba Ho-Tep") latest horror/comedy "John Dies at the End." This mind-shellacking flick is, at the start, apparently about a new drug called "Soy Sauce" that causes some serious hallucinogenic side effects. From that point on, your guess is as good as ours - but this looks to be a serious WTF from beginning to end - like "The Matrix" meets "Trainspotting" while watching "The Guyver" on late night cable.
And this from the guy who had Elvis and the reincarnated spirit of JFK fight a mummy in a retirement home. So that's saying something.
U.S. & World
Gotta love Coscarelli's official synopsis:
It’s a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can’t.
"No. No, they can't." Awesome.
Check out the trailer...and then get up and get some fresh air. You'll need it.
