State Department Warns Against Travel to Thailand

The U.S. State Department is advising American travelers to avoid nonessential trips to Thailand, especially Bangkok, because of "ongoing political and social unrest" in the wake of a coup last week, NBC News reported. Thailand's army seized power after months of deadly demonstrations over political deadlock. The military has arrested government leaders, placed restrictions on the media and enacted a nighttime curfew throughout the country since taking power on May 22.
