Dave Hughes began sailing at 13 years old and has an impressive track record. Prior to joining forces with current teammate Stu McNay, the 10-time U.S. Sailing national team member won gold at the 2005 and 2006 North American Championships in the 470. In 2012, Hughes participated in the London Olympics not as an athlete but as a coach. After the Games, Hughes was presented with the opportunity to partner up with two-time Olympian Stu McNay and couldn’t refuse. Hughes and McNay have quickly climbed the international ranks in the 470. They won gold in 2013 and 2015 at the Sailing World Cup Miami and the 2015 470 European Championship. At the 2016 470 European Championships, Hughes and McNay won bronze securing their Olympic selection for Rio.
