SAN FRANCISCO -- Farhan Zaidi has been asked a few times if he would find a way to sneak Dodger-killer Ty Blach onto the roster whenever the rivals faced off. This is not how the Giants hoped to do it.
Blach was recalled from Triple-A on Monday because the Giants placed lefty Derek Holland on the injured list with a bruised left index finger. Holland becomes the first Giant to go on the IL during the season, joining Johnny Cueto, who was put on in the spring.
It's unclear if Blach will take Holland's start on Friday in Cincinnati, but for the time being, he provides an extra bullpen arm against a tough Dodgers lineup. Blach has a 1.88 ERA in 57 1/3 career innings against the Dodgers.
Holland, the No. 2 starter, has a 5.34 ERA in six appearances. He was roughed up by the Yankees on Saturday, giving up a grand slam to Gary Sanchez.
