You know how it goes. The moment a legendary sports figure claims they are planning to call it a career, people starting wondering when they will eventually try to return to the only thing they've really known.
Such is the case with Bruce Bochy.
The legendary Giants skipper is hanging it up after this weekend's series against the Dodgers, closing the book on what has been a lifetime in the game. Bochy likely will manage Team France next spring, but other than that he doesn't have any plans to lead a team again.
But, of course, you never can say never.
"I don't know," Bochy said when asked about a potential return down the line, via John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. "Later on, when you get away from the game, who knows how you'll react? I'm good with my call. I'd be lying if I didn't say it's been tough here at the end of the season realizing it's ending. No, I'm fine with it. I can't tell you what's going to happen in the future because I don't know."
After the Padres fired manager Andy Green, it has been posited that Bochy could return to his old stomping grounds. That, at the moment, feels unlikely.

Even with a career record below .500, Bochy appears ticketed for Cooperstown after leading the Giants to three World Series titles in five seasons.
People have a hard time staying away from the game, no matter their intentions.
Time and time again, we've seen sports giants retire only to return to the game their life has revolved around.
Bochy appears content with his decision, but it wouldn't be all that surprising if he returns one day.
