Kings Rookie Won't Return Before All-Star Break

Sacramento Kings point guard Frank Mason III is on the mend, but he's still a ways out. The rookie is officially out until after the All-Star break with a partial tear of the right plantar fascia in his right heel, NBC Sports California has learned.

Mason injured his heel in the Kings' December 31 match up with the Memphis Grizzlies. The early prognosis had him sitting 4-6 weeks, which coincides with the front half of All-Star week.

The hope is that Mason will be 100 percent healthy and ready to play when Sacramento opens up their second half schedule against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 22.

Before the injury, Mason was averaging 7.6 points and 2.9 assists in 18.6 minutes per game.
